Restriction Laws

It's no surprise that more conservative states have attempted to restrict abortion as much as they can over the past half century since Roe established a woman's right to choose. As of October 2021, 18 out of 50 states have severe restrictions. These severe restrictions vary from a heartbeat to 20 week ban, parental involvement requirements, funding/insurance restrictions, and required waiting periods of various times [1]. 11 out of 50 states have moderate restrictions consisting of parental involvement, insurance/funding restrictions and waiting periods [2]. 2 out of 50 states have less moderate restrictions, and 19 out of 50 states are considered very accessible when attempting to get an abortion [3]. The 18 states considered severely restricted as assumed to ban abortion if Roe were to be overturned [4].

As many states are creating their own regulation, Congress is attempting to protect the right given to women in Roe. In June 2021, H.R. 3755 - Women's Health Protection Act of 2021 was introduced [5]. This bill would "protect a person's ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy, and to protect a health care provider's ability to provide abortion services" [6]. This bill would federally protect abortions. On September 24th, the bill passed the House and the last action taken on this bill was September 29, 2021 where it was placed on the Senate Calendar [7].
